Today I am going to talk about a Computer and Technology Retail store called Microcenter. I recently went to Microcenter for the first time last Sunday (since its a 2 hour ride from my house) and I must say I was very impressed with the store. This is coming from from someone who knows very little about computers other than Video editing, Microsoft Office, and the internet. This store literally has everything you can imagine for computers. Its like the Sams Club of computer parts, software, and accessories. The store is massive and was broken up into several sections. along the wall from he front to the back of the store was software including Programs, operating systems, games, and many more. On the left half of the store, there were about 15 or so aisles of just accessories. One aisle was dedicated to Mouses, another Keyboards, another for wires, etc. They carry just about every updated brand of every part. On the right side of the store were Smart TVs, pre-built computer systems, Audio speakers, Monitors, mobile devices, and a few other odds and ends.
The Store also has a small section for only Apple products and another section for customer service where certified technicians help customers with questions and problems. At the back of the store was a section called Build-Your-Own. In this area, There are several aisles of individual computer pieces for customers to upgrade, replace, or build a computer from scratch. This was my primary purpose for going to Microcenter. I was looking to custom build a computer system for video editing and gaming. And that is exactly what I did. With the help of a knowledgeable employee, I was able to buy each individual part of a computer tower so that I could assemble it myself. It was honestly like assembling a grown ups Lego toy. I will soon be uploading photos and talking about my experience building the PC in a separate blog.
The customer service at Microcenter was very helpful. Everyone that I encountered was very nice and knew a lot about the products they sold. To make a comparison, I would rank myself at a 3rd grade level when it comes to talking about computers. I know the basics but that's about it. The employees at Microcenter helped me get a better grasp of what each piece actually does and why it is important to the systems build. I would now rank my knowledge at a 6th grade level.
Overall If you live near a Microcenter or if you love PC's and your willing to make a drive, it is a great place for computer technology. They constantly run bundle package deals for example Buy this Processor, get $40 off this Motherboard. The great part about that is now you freed up $40 in your budget that you can either A) save or B) upgrade a different part to a higher quality piece. For example with that extra $40 I got a 3 Terabyte Hard-drive instead of a 2 Terabyte Hard-drive.
